The most common question we hear from homeowners considering RevWood is how it compares to luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and solid hardwood. Here’s how they stack up on the criteria that matter for a whole-home flooring decision.
RevWood vs. Luxury Vinyl Plank
Both RevWood and LVP are engineered wood-look flooring built to survive water, pets, and heavy foot traffic. The differences come down to material and feel. LVP is vinyl-based – softer underfoot, quieter to walk on, and typically thinner. RevWood is a wood-composite laminate with a denser core, giving it a more substantial feel more like real hardwood. If you want the closest match to solid hardwood in look and feel, RevWood wins. If you prioritize the softest step and the widest style range at lower price points, LVP is often the better fit.
RevWood vs. Solid Hardwood
Solid hardwood is the reference standard for wood floors – genuine wood you can refinish multiple times over decades. But it’s also the highest-maintenance option. Hardwood scratches, dents, and reacts to humidity swings. It cannot be installed below grade (in basements) and generally isn’t recommended in kitchens or bathrooms due to water exposure. RevWood delivers a visual and tactile experience close to hardwood – with none of those water, humidity, and installation-location constraints. For most modern households, RevWood offers more of what people actually want in hardwood, without the downsides.

Yes. RevWood is safe to install in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements – locations where solid hardwood cannot be installed.

How is RevWood installed?
RevWood uses a click-lock floating floor system that installs faster than glue-down or nail-down hardwood. In most homes, our installation crews can complete a whole-room RevWood installation in a single day, including furniture moving and old-flooring removal. No adhesive fumes, minimal disruption, and you can walk on the new floor immediately.
Can I install RevWood over existing flooring?
In many cases, yes. RevWood can be installed over most existing hard surfaces (tile, vinyl, old laminate) provided the subfloor is level and structurally sound. It cannot be installed over carpet carpet must be removed first. Our installers assess the subfloor during the in-home estimate and give you the exact prep required before any commitments are made.
Is RevWood made in the USA?
Yes. Mohawk manufactures RevWood at its facilities in North Georgia. The product is also certified carbon-negative – meaning Mohawk offsets more carbon in production than the finished flooring contains – which puts RevWood among the most environmentally responsible flooring options on the market.
