Carpet Care Do's & Don'ts
Do This
- Use walk-off mats at all entrances.
- Vacuum regularly – light traffic twice weekly, heavy traffic daily.
- Vacuum with the correct height setting. No beater bar on carpet.
- Have your carpet professionally cleaned every 12 months.
- Trim pet nails to prevent snags and pulls.
- Blot spills immediately. Never rub.
Avoid This
- Dragging furniture across carpet.
- Pulling on loose loops or yarns.
- Using vacuums with beater bars or hard heads.
- Ignoring spills or allowing stains to set.
- Allowing pets to scratch, dig, bite, or have accidents on carpet.
- Excess moisture or improper cleaning solutions.
Did You Know?
More than 80% of soil in carpet comes from tracked-on outdoor dirt. Walk-off mats and regular vacuuming are your first line of defense! Routine care = Longer life and beauty!
Carpet Care Important Details
Pulled Loops (Berber): If a loop pulls, do NOT pull on it. Cut the pull from the base with scissors. A pulled or raised loop is not a manufacturing defect and should be trimmed before vacuuming.
Vacuum Cleaning: Use a vacuum with an adjustable brush/beater bar set so it only lightly agitates the pile. If the motor slows down, the setting is too low and may damage your carpet.
Professional Cleaning: Have your carpet professionally cleaned every 12 months to remove deep-down soil and help maintain the appearance and performance of your carpet.
Pets in the Home: Keep nails trimmed and supervise pets on carpeted areas. Damage from pets (scratching, digging, biting, accidents) is not covered.
Remember: Your carpet is designed to hide soil, but gritty soil can abrade fibers and cause your carpet to look dull and worn over time.
Pet damage
Pulled loops
Burns
Tears & cuts
Improper cleaning
Vacuum misuse
Normal wear & traffic
Stains from spills/pets
These conditions are the responsibility of the homeowner and are not covered under the Lifetime Installation Guarantee.
Hard Surface Floor Care Do's & Don'ts
Do This
- Wipe up spills immediately. Keep water off your floor.
- Use felt pads under all furniture.
- Use proper hard-surface cleaners. Spray cleaner on cloth or mop.
- Use walk-off mats at all entrances.
- Maintain stable temperature (55°F - 85°F) and humidity (35% - 55%).
- Use a chair mat in any area with rolling office chairs.
Avoid This
- Steam mops or excess water.
- Ammonia, bleach, vinegar, wax or oil soaps.
- Dragging or sliding furniture.
- Rolling chairs without a floor mat.
- Spike or stiletto heeled shoes.
- Direct sunlight for extended periods.
Quick Tip: Lift furniture. Don't drag. Protect your floor from scratches and dents!
Hard Surface Important Details & Exclusions
Key Details: Vacuum, sweep or dust-mop weekly using a soft brush or felt attachment. Never use rugs with solid rubber or vinyl backings. Use breathable rugs only. Keep pet nails trimmed to minimize scratch damage. Do not roll or slide heavy objects; use protective covering and gently "walk" items across. Use wide, flat glides or barrel-type caster wheels on furniture. Protect from low humidity (below 35%) and high humidity (above 55%).
This guarantee is void if cabinets, islands, or fixtures are installed in a way that restricts the floor's natural expansion and contraction.
Moisture damage
Steam mop/improper clean
Pet urine/accidents
Furniture scratches/dents
Sun fade/discoloration
Humidity/temp flux
Normal wear and tear

National Floors Direct Lifetime Installation Guarantee: Your carpet and/or hard surface flooring are covered by a limited
manufacturer’s warranty. NFD also provides you with a lifetime installation guarantee which will cover all labor and installation for the carpet or hard surface flooring for the lifetime of the limited manufacturer’s warranty. At National Floors Direct, we stand behind our installation workmanship for as long as you own and live in your home. NFD provides this Limited Lifetime Installation Guarantee to the original residential purchaser (“Owner”) for qualifying flooring installations performed by NFD or its authorized installation contractors. If an issue arises due to improper installation of your flooring, NFD will repair or replace the affected area at no cost to Buyer, subject to the terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions set forth herein. Your warranty covers installation workmanship for carpet, hardwood, engineered wood, luxury vinyl (LVP/LVT), laminate, and tile flooring installations performed by NFD or its authorized contractors. This
Guarantee covers qualifying installation workmanship issues only and does not replace or extend any manufacturer product warranty.
“Lifetime” means for so long as: the limited manufacturer’s warranty is valid, the original purchaser owns and occupies the residence where the flooring was originally installed (there is a one-time option to transfer to a subsequent homeowner within 12 months of installation – this transfer must be reported to NFD within 14 days to take effect); the flooring remains in its original installed location; the account remains paid in full; and the Owner complies with all maintenance, environmental, and warranty conditions. This Guarantee becomes effective only after: substantial completion of the installation; final walkthrough completion; execution of the customer satisfaction checklist; and payment in full under the Flooring Purchase Order. This Guarantee does not cover failures, movement, separation, noise,
squeaking, hollow areas, gapping, cracking, lifting, peaking, buckling, delamination, or other conditions caused in whole or in part by: subfloor movement, subfloor deflection, structural movement, slab cracking, moisture or humidity, hydrostatic pressure, uneven subfloors, improper prior construction, joist movement, settling, environmental conditions, expansion or contraction, or conditions beyond NFD’s control. NFD may deny any claim arising from subfloor conditions, subfloor preparation, or site conditions that did not meet the manufacturer installation requirements, including where recommended corrective work was declined by Owner. Any warranty provided extends only to the conditions of the installation space at the time of completion and does not extend to any conditions not known or under the control of NFD at the time of commencement of the installation or to any defect caused by conditions occurring subsequent to
the completion of the installation. This Guarantee does not cover damage caused by normal wear and tear, damage caused by fire, flooding, and/or other natural disasters or Acts of God, damage caused by negligence, accidents, misuse or abuse, damage caused by vacuum cleaner beater bar or hard heads, carpet caught by vacuum, improper or insufficient cleaning, wear or damage resulting from tears, cuts, snags, pulls, pets, pet urine, insects, burns, pilling, shedding, crushing, matting, construction, remodeling, traffic, damage caused by athletic equipment, damage caused by appliances, damage caused by rolling chairs, furniture and casters, damage caused by cutting from sharp objects, reduction in gloss, scratches or indentation due to sand, pebbles, heel shoes, insufficient protection from furniture, or other abrasives, changes in color due to exposure to sunlight and age, natural expansion and contraction resulting in
separation between boards or damage caused by low or excessive humidity, damage caused by low temperature (below 60 degrees Fahrenheit) or high temperatures (above 85 degrees Fahrenheit). This Guarantee is void if cabinets, islands, walls, fixtures, appliances, heavy objects, or other structures are installed over, through, or in a manner that restricts the flooring’s intended expansion and contraction characteristics. Any repair, modification, removal, adjustment, rip-up, reinstallation, or servicing performed by anyone other than NFD or an NFD-authorized contractor voids this Guarantee as to the affected area. Any construction that takes place in any area that NFD has provided carpet or flooring for, after the completion of the installation, will void any and all installation warranties or guarantees.
Flooring must be maintained within commercially reasonable indoor environmental conditions, including temperature and humidity ranges recommended by the manufacturer. This guarantee is void if your flooring is subjected to: standing water, flooding, pet urine, steam mops, improper cleaners, and or moisture intrusion. This Guarantee applies only to owner-occupied residential installations and does not apply to commercial, rental, investment, or multi-family properties. If NFD determines a covered condition exists, NFD may, at its sole option and discretion: repair, re-install, replace, provide substitute materials, or refund the original contract price allocable to the affected area.
Replacement products may vary in color, texture, shade, pattern, dye lot, or finish from the original installation. The installation crew performing any potential services under the installation warranty will be assigned at NFD’s sole discretion. NFD’s total liability under this Guarantee shall not exceed the amounts actually paid to NFD under the original Flooring Purchase Order for the affected installation area.
NFD shall not be liable for incidental, indirect, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential damages, including relocation costs, alternative housing, moving/storage expenses, loss of use, lost profits, or damage to other property. Owner must notify NFD promptly upon discovery of any claimed condition and must provide NFD a reasonable opportunity to inspect and address the claimed issue before any third-party repair work is performed. This warranty does not apply to defects or imperfections in the carpet or hard surface flooring. NFD will facilitate evaluation of these concerns through the limited manufacturer’s warranty. If NFD submits a manufacturer’s warranty claim on your behalf, you may be required to complete any documentation or agreements reasonably necessary to evaluate, submit, or process the claim. Except as expressly stated herein, NFD makes no other warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. In no event shall NFD be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
